Casey Cullen is an artist located out of Providence, RI. After receiving a BFA in Studio Arts from Providence College (Go Friars), she received her MFA in Photography and Integrated Media from Lesley University. Casey is passionate about teaching and traveling, and was able to combine the two by leading the Artist Brigade Photography Workshops at NicaPhoto, located in Nagarote, Nicaragua. Casey has also taught Introduction to Darkroom Photography at Lesley University, where she was an Adjunct Faculty Member. She is also a freelance educator, including one-on-one sessions, and instruction on private darkroom setup.

Casey’s area of focus is large format 4x5 film photography. She is interested in the idea of film as a tangible object, and not just a means to an end. She is currently working with positive color film, where the physical piece of film is the final actualized photograph, meant to be held and viewed in person. With her own fully functional wet lab, she is able to control every aspect of image making from start to finish.

Being an avid traveler, Casey has created multiple photo essays on places she has visited, including Thailand, Cambodia, Cuba, and most recently, Utah. She enjoys getting to know a place and the people who live there through the act of photographing. More often than not, the process opens up dialogues leading to insightful conversations.

Casey’s work has been shown in various galleries throughout the Northeast. In 2018 she was a part of, and helped oversee the “Look: Portraits of Nicaragua” Photo Fundraiser Exhibition at 22 Haviland Street Gallery in Norwalk, CT, where all proceeds went to NicaPhoto, and more than $1000 was raised. The same year, Casey was also recognized as one of Boston Accent Lit’s “Ten Emerging Artists to Watch”.

Currently, Casey is working as a Graphic Designer/Printing Technician at Precision Images, Inc. She was recently awarded “Best Use of Substrate” in the Pine Awards of Excellence for her piece Multidimensional, Literally and Figuratively. Casey combined photography, design, and UV ink printing to create a 35 layer, three-dimensional photographic print from a 4x5 scanned negative. Her piece is currently being juried on a national level.
