22POPLAR

22 Poplar examines how memories, old and new, personal and familial, coalesce to fill and define personal domestic spaces. How do memories exist? Where are they located? How can they be shared with others? 22 Poplar aims to answer these questions through visual re-representations and investigating the relationship between photography and memory. Through photographs and the integrated media of digital video and sculpture, I am documenting my memories now before the house changes even more. My work consists of color videos interacting with black-and-white photographs to complete the perception and illusion of my memories within individual rooms of my childhood home as I reflect on them today. The video pieces bring life into the vacant rooms in the same way memories continue to live on within the actual home. It is the history of my family that lives between these walls and until now, could only be seen in my mind’s eye.
